Sustainability at Termokir

Sustainability at Termokir

Well before “sustainability” became a buzzword, we at Termokir had already assimilated it into our operations. For over two decades, we have been working towards a better future for citizens, contractors, and the environment as a whole.

Termokir views sustainability as a key element in its activities, incorporating it into all organizational, marketing, and operational processes for more than two decades. Integrating the values of sustainability across all levels of activity leads to the development of green products which reduce energy costs, helps developers and contractors meet green building standards, and allows us to care for the environment more effectively. As a result, in 2012 Termokir was awarded the Green Globe Award and in 2015 won the “Industry and Environment 2015” competition held in collaboration with the Manufacturers Association of Israel. So what actions do we take to shape a better tomorrow?

Developing Green Products

As early as the 1980s, we produced Israel’s first thermal plaster product to insulate the entire building envelope. The result: significant reduction in energy consumption. Ongoing investment in R&D has led to the launch of additional products containing environmentally and applicator-friendly materials, some of which include recycled content and are based on special formulas to increase coverage capacity.

Reducing the Environmental Footprint

Termokir was the first company in Israel’s construction sector to conduct a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) aimed at understanding the environmental impact of its products across their lifespan. To date the company has conducted an LCA for each of its products. Termokir was additionally the first to issue environmental reports and EPD declarations for its products in Israeli manufacturing plants in

the field of finishing materials, and has already received certification from The International EPD System.

These analyses assist in making informed decisions on developing products that minimize environmental harm and protect the environment while simultaneously being more applicator- and user-friendly. Termokir was also the first to launch product bags in Israel which display the item’s carbon footprint. Carbon footprint data accessibilizes important environmental information, and helps developers and contractors make better environmental decisions.

Compliance with Green Building Standards

Termokir’s broad range of points-earning products complies with green building standards (IS 5281, LEED, etc.). Termokir’s unique integration of LCA and EPD processes in our building products provides developers and contractors with additional points under the green building standard.

Developing Efficient
Green Production Processes

At Termokir sustainability begins at the production stage. Over the years we have developed an efficient process which allows us to double the quantity of items produced using the same amount of energy. Once the product is ready, it continues contributing to savings in the production process of other products: accumulated waste is collected, reintroduced into the production cycle, and employed in the manufacture of new products. The result is a green production process that includes:

- Products containing recycled materials

- 80% reduction in waste volume

- Annual saving of 550 tons of raw materials

- 50% reduction in energy consumption

Our energy efficiency extends beyond the factory gates: Termokir works exclusively with suppliers committed to sustainability and energy efficiency by sending them a dedicated questionnaire which evaluates their activities in these fields.

Looking Ahead: Joining the Race to Net Zero

Termokir is the first Israeli company in the construction sector to join the “Zero Hour” initiative and commit to meeting its various targets. The “Zero Hour” mechanism was developed by Israel’s Ministry of Environmental Protection with the aim of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. It contains voluntary emissions reduction targets for the business sector. We continue with an eye to the future by constantly seeking additional ways to reduce our products’ environmental footprint.
